the formation training looks ok and makes sense

i remember on ultimate soccer manager 98 the training was a lot better in terms of practising in game moves and set pieces etc. if you can do some of that it will be good

but the super specific attribute training bit  uhoh

Sounds good tbf. If they make the training more user-friendly/transparent like they did with the tactics for FM10 then it'll be class.

I find it much harder to get into single player games now, cos the last couple I have had some network games on the go

network >> single player

the pre match training look good, the training just looks daunting Scared

CM3/4 was the last computer game I actually bought. Truefact.

I'm assuming that FM11 is not at the same "just jump in, fiddle with transfers and get on with matches" level that CM3/4 was?

also, presumably with pretty much every club in the world apart from Man City being broke, the transfer market is a lot less fun.

As soon as you know the 6 players to buy for 250k, money kinda becomes irrelevant.

It isnt that they put so much extra detail in (although I know alot of people dont like and that is fair enough) it's that too much of it either is never explained properly or it makes no sense. Or both in the case of team talks. The tactics for FM09 for example made no sense except in the heads of the devs at SI (they did do a good job at rectifying it for FM10).

Or a plain waste of time. The press conferences, I really tried hard to like them really I did but they are just an impossibly banal waste of time. I dont think Ive ever seen one make the slightest bit of difference.

They'd benefit from a sort of 'arcade' mode where alot of the extra bits were stripped out, but I guess it would just be too difficult to do.

There's a lot more variables to fiddle with these days, but tbh they've done a pretty good job of making the tactics at least fairly easy to understand. You can just pick player roles from a drop down list (ball-winning midfidlers, winger, advanced forward, etc) so you don't need to fiddle with sliders all day.

So really, you can just do transfers and get on with matches. You might not be majorly successful but you can do it.

I'd love to see someone datamine forums, fansites, blogs etc and see if there is any correlation between FM using terms like that in the game and an increase in people using them in general parlance.

thats the most annoying thing about press conferences, let your assistant do them and he will upset everyone

also forget to criticise indiscipline and everyone will start moaning and wont be happy again for months on end

i dont mind the idea of them but the execution is POOR  Thumbs Down

I guess they have to strike a balance between scouts/coaches being infallible and not being too stupid as to be irrelevant.

I find the refs don't make enough mistakes, whenever you get a news item saying 'blah blah looked offside for that goal' 99/100 it comes back it was the correct decision.

Network games Thumbs Up BANTER takes care of the niggles plus keeps you a bit more honest; you cant just buy the same players you always do.

I do the new job one and occasionally for big signings. assistant doesn't seem to do much damage but who cares, fuk da prez.

i understand they don't want the assistants to be infallible rob but when you look at the team report and he is slagging off players who are blatently good it is annoying.

Yeah I know what you mean, sometimes it is just sigh voronin again... and they do it with transfers as well 'blah blah shouldn't be on the transfer list he still has something to offer the club' blah blah blah SHUT UP.

I find them particularly bad when it comes to youth players. As Plymouth on 4 player network game it was running joke how many '5 star sign at any cost' strikers I had who scored less than 10 goals between them angry angry

Prob just my formation tbf

That side of FM got too much for me at the stage where you had to decide whether to appeal a red card decision. The complete lottery about whether it would succeed or end up with a longer ban was too irritating. The press conferences thing and half time team talks were just hellish in FM8 and, by gum, those assistant manager team picks :biggestfacepalmknowntoman:

'hmmmmm managers often criticise referees after controversial decisions, we should put an option in the game that allows you to do that'

'yeah, and how about you fall out with the board and players plus get a fine 99% of the time you do it?'

 uhoh

theo- it allows you to replay the incident on th screen where you decide to appeal or not

general fm question :

i took years out from 01/02 to 09 so havent been doing team talks that long, i generally go for 'fans' 'you can win' or 'expect a win'...should i be varying it more

always think the old 'relax' option seems a bit dodgy  wut?

i go with - you can win and do it with the fans  pre-game usually.

then - don't let the performance drop, we can win, and where's the passion lads.

did well or sympathise after nearly match.

fix shaking it up.

also don't use 2d or 3d views.  I'm a firm believe in the text.

If I am at all an underdog go for 'nothing to lose so go out and enjoy the match'
Otherwise usually 'you can do it' or 'for the fans' if against a rival team
Then half time usually either 'where's the passion lads' or 'dont let performance drop'
End of game sympathise or one of the happy ones if we win

Always try to err on side of being positive I find, otherwise the players just moan at you

Anyone else played the demo?

Thumbs Up
3d match engine is much much better
Including agents is much better
Can design own set pieces
Individual training makes more sense I think
Match preparation

Thumbs Down
Private chats are repetitive already. Joined Liverpool and put Jovanovic, Babel, Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Konchesky and Poulsen up for sale. Had exact same chat with each player, each one responded the same. I reloaded and tried other options to see what would happen and I couldn't seem to generate a different response. Hmm.
Press conferences. Yawn.

I don't have internet at home and i'm a bit concerned this will be full of bugs without the inevitable patches. But likewise will still get it.

There will be a patch on day 1, as there always is. They never seem to quite get the balance right in generating a realistic number of things like injuries, bookings etc.

I think it was the last one where the out-of-the-box version the injuries were horrendous Scared 3-4 a week sometimes Thumbs Down

Oh yeah I clicked through a few games as Liv, didnt set any tactical instructions, asked assistant manager to pick the team, didn't buy anyone etc etc
