The Fernando Torres Countdown Thread
« on: Tue 09 Mar 10 16:10 GMT »

No he's not following in Clarke Carlisle's footsteps. But it's beginning to look like our time with the handsome Spaniard may be coming to an end.  sad

Hopefully this is just a load of gibberish on my part but with 9 league games left (and maybe more than 2 more EL games) and 4th looking like a wishful dream perhaps we should face the fact he may be sold for big beans (GBP) in the summer.

Let's just enjoy our time together.....

Farewell sweet prince, you were one of the only squad members we had that wasn't butt ugly.

It's still too early to say whether I mean this or not. I'm still gutted  sad

(WHTE)No one else is going to say it so I'll say it. Torres is shit, if anyone else like Kuyt, Babel or N'Gog had missed those chances Torres missed we would be having discussions about the likes of Silva (TEXT) coming into replace them. I say we sell Torres when we still can and get Defoe.

Only kidding, the Defoe bit should've given away that.

I cannot honestly believe anyone would think it was a good idea to sell him  uhoh

Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Masch. We have to have these 4 players. And I'd prob throw Agger and Johnson in there as well.

Shut up rob!

What use would keeping our best players be.  We are IN DEBT - this means you have to sell all your best players, just look at Manchester United or Real Madrid for recent examples. We have been OVERACHIEVING for the last 5 years despite the fact we havent been overachieving, the best we can hope for now is to stay in the europa league for the next few seasons, and we will be lucky to do that.

Overachieving  lol

I honestly do not undestand that arguement at all, the last few years we've been were deserved to be. We have however hugely underachieved this season, to sickening levels. I think I'd rather finish out of the EL places than in them  lol

I can't be having this!  The EL is one of the 5 major trophies you can win.  Admittedly not as prestigious but nevertheless we didn't complain in 1973 and 1976 and we shouldn't now.  You wouldn't have heard Shanks or Bob Paisley dismissing it.

Have we become so arrogant that we can only get interested in winning the Champions League and the Premiership?

The EL is a trophy and we exist to win trophies.

Hence the laughing smiley  sigh voronin again...

I'd love to win the EL this season and although it's hardly something to look forward to in comparison with the CL it is still something to try and win.

It's all irelevant anyway tbh, if we don't finish in the top 4 it may be time for big changes.

Showed it to my flatmate. Stony faced. Wimmins. They just dont get shit.

Anyway no, we cannot seriously lose Torres. Just cannot. Anyway he has signed a new contract not so long ago, it isnt too unfair to expect him to bladdy well honour it.

Reina
Johnson Agger Carra/Skrtel ??
Masch Aqui
Gerrard
?? Torres ??

Is the bones of a title winning side. Not to say our other players arent good enough, just that those in particular are more than capable of competing with Chels/Utd/Ars.

Having had a bit of time to think and read a few other pieces here and there, a bit of perspective has been had.

Only a bit mind and only until our next ultimately disappointing performance.

OK OK OK woahhhhhhhhhhhh neddy  sigh voronin again...

Just read some of the thread on F365 and we are now facing 2-3 seasons of mid table football? Even as shit as we have been this season we are still looking top 7.

And I doubt we could play this shit for this long again if we set out to do it.

What what what what what?

I accept Man City will be better next season when they spend another £200 million but the target will be top 4 next season.

Won't it?

I feel like Ive gone 180 now, from despair to 'no actually we are still quite good'.

I bladdy give up.

We aren't going into a meltdown in general, this season has just been a nightmare. If we don't make top 4 then perhaps it's time for Rafa to go. The changes made in the summer will then have to be the right ones. We aren't worse than Villa/City/Spurs now we've just been awful this season.

Glosrob  adore I coudl not agree more.

What the fukc is wrong with everyone just completely giving up on the team?  We have the same team minus 1 player who smashed the shit out of real madrid over 2 legs and came 2nd on 86 points.

Of course as time goes on and we dont spend money and our rivals do its going to get harder but some of them really need to get a fucking grip.  Our bench the other day cost around £60m, probably more than Evertons average match day team yet theyve been coming 5th lately, just because we didnt spend big last year doesnt cancel out the fact our squad is full of expensive international players who've already shown how well they can do.

I still  maintain, a left winger, a change of attitude, more flexibility for coping with Torres injuries and we can win the league next season.  When Rafa won the league with Valencia (nearest equivalent to our season last season) they were shit, dour, negative, sulky and came 5th the next season.  Won the league the year after.

This is a tongue in cheek thread tbf, as for Aquilani I still could see it happening.

Unless we got £90 million odd for Nando or he asks to leave (which I doubt, his bloody injuries have been part of the bloody problem!) he'll still be with us next season  bunny

If we did get £90 million we could buy Crouch and Bellamy back and admit that we were so wrong to sell them in the first place.  roll eyes
